In this video, Dr. Mike Evans suggests that movement is the single best thing we can do for our physical and mental health. He quotes 40% and 50% reductions to anxiety and depression, respectively, in people who move for 30 minutes per day. “We see big differences when somebody goes from not doing anything to doing something.” Dr. Evans notes. “You can break it down so it’s just 10 minutes, 10 minutes and 10 minutes, if you want to do 30 minutes of exercise and want it broken into three daily segments.”

It's sometimes difficult to find an agreeable therapeutic technique which crosses borders and is universal, particularly in terms of the reasons people come to therapy. In his research driven book, The Depression Cure, Dr. Steven Iliard links movement as second only to the need for light as one of the most powerful agents of change for depression.

It seems a stretch that we would prescribe exercise for marital therapy, alcohol recovery, burnout, parenting issues, and grief recovery, but thirty minutes a day of intentional movement has shown over and over that it is a biological foundation to overall health. It allows us the capacity to better absorb these therapeutic issues and increase quality of life.
